Our Story

Xo Ki’in retreat center operates as an arts and meditation center

focusing on developing creativity and insight.

Xo Ki’in hosts inspiring programs in meditation, art and wellness retreats in a natural environment on the Caribbean ocean near Tulum, Mexico as well as co-sponsoring talks and courses in the region by well-qualified teachers. The teachers associated with Xo Ki’in represent various traditions.

Xo Ki’in is nonsectarian and is dedicated to awakening compassion, awareness, and wisdom.

Xo Ki’in can be rented by groups for retreats or spiritual workshops, and by individual practitioners. All faith traditions and approaches to meditation are welcome. There is a temple with large teaching & meeting space, a kitchen, a dining room,  and residences accommodating up to 10 people. The property covers 12 acres in the Sian Ka’an Biosphere a UNESCO nature reserve of over a million hectares in the State of Quintana Roo, Mexico. The reserve is dedicated to the protection and development of all life in the area, human, animal, and plant; it includes marsh, coral sand beaches, and over 100 km of the Palancar reef and the surrounding turquoise Caribbean ocean.

Who We Are

Anna Woods has been running Xo Ki’in for 30+ years and her vision of supporting people on their spiritual journey continues to this day.

Alejandro Durán has been the artist in residence at Xo Ki’in since 2015 and he will now help direct all aspects of the retreat center and continue to build his environmental art project, Washed Up: Transforming a Trashed Landscape and the Museo de la Basura on site.
